It's time to Unlock the Music! This is a brand new fundraiser for New World Youth Orchestras that incorporates our mission with raising money and components of video games: unlocking content and earning achievements. If you've played games like Guitar Hero or Mario Party, then you know how this works. You begin with a certain amount of games or songs you can play and as you master them, new (often more difficult) content is unlocked for you to play. In some cases, there are achievements to be earned for completing certain portions of the game in a specific way and titles gained by doing so – often for no other reason than bragging rights. But who wouldn't want that?

In this case, we've selected a piece for the orchestra: Bernstein's Overture to Candide. There are 30 separate parts (violin 1, piccolo, and tuba for example) with total measures adding up to 8,610.

We want your help to “unlock” this piece in time for our May 23 concert at Hilbert Circle Theatre. If the entire piece is unlocked, the full orchestra will perform the piece as written. If not, parts will be cut or portions of the piece will not be performed. Will we reach the bonus round raising an extra $1000? What IS the bonus round? Stay tuned...

Every $1 donated unlocks one measure in one part. Really, just $1! How often can you support your favorite cause for just $1?

Special Achievements:

$30 donation: This supports the entire orchestra ($1 per part) so the donor is awarded the title of DEFENDER OF ORCHESTRAS.

$287 donation: This unlocks one entire part (flute 1, for example)! The donor is awarded the title of TRACK MASTER and the opportunity to sit on-stage or in the stage terrace during the performance of the piece.

All donations, regardless of size, will be recognized on our website and in a slideshow at the performance.

Donations may be made through a member of the orchestra, on our website through Paypal, or by mailing a check to the New World office. Sorry – credit cards are accepted through Paypal only.

Upon reaching the $4,000 level and the $8,610 level, we will hold a drawing for prizes – so send in your $1 now! Your name will go into the drawing for each $1 you submit. Prizes to be announced later.

May concert ticket giveaways will occur randomly from March through May on Twitter, Facebook, and Blogspot. Keep up with the conversation and our running total by checking into these sites regularly.
